Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned cruiser, there’s always a new ship on the horizon, new places to go and new things to learn.

Basel to Amsterdam river cruise: Romance on the Rhine with Crystal Bach

Recently I've been praying to St Anthony, the patron of lost things, on a regular basis; however, perhaps not praying so hard as a guest on Crystal Bach's previous cruise along the Rhine. That unlucky woman lost her priceless diamond engagement ring in her suite's bathroom and despite the staff's best efforts the ring still hasn't been found. An endoscopic camera has been ordered in Amsterdam to search the plumbing system when the ship arrives at the end of this journey.

24 hours on P&O's Pacific Explorer

Canada to Greenland arctic cruise

During the pre-cruise briefing for Adventure Canada's 15-day expedition to Greenland and Labrador in Newfoundland, expedition leader Jason Edmunds says we will sail more than 2000 nautical miles (3700 km), cross cultural borders and travel through bear territory – black and polar. He emphasises that the "intended itinerary" is just that – intended, and we should be prepared to expect the unexpected.

MSC Splendida cruise, Middle East

Visiting a hospital when you're travelling is usually something to avoid at all costs, but here I am at a state-of-the-art medical establishment in the heart of the UAE - voluntarily - and no, I'm not checking in for cosmetic procedures, although the surgeons do extraordinarily detailed work here.

The theory of everything Galápagos

The newest boutique ship to sail the Galápagos combines expedition-style cruising with contemporary luxury.

Red-chested frigate birds, supersized tortoises, blue-footed boobies, green turtles and golden iguanas are among the galaxy of wonderful creatures you’re almost certain to encounter – at very close quarters – around Ecuador’s remote Galápagos archipelago.
