Writing & Editing

As well as writing a weekly cruise-travel column and features for NINE’s Sun-Herald Traveller, I am a regular contributor to magazines such as Signature Luxury Travel & Style, Vacations & TravelBetter Homes and Gardens, Virgin’s Voyeur and various online media, including the influential Cruise Critic site. Travel is in my blood: I spent a year travelling around India, Nepal and Afghanistan in the 1970s, sailed from Darwin to Singapore on a 33-foot yacht, lived in Paris for five months and, more recently, have cruised on some 70 ocean and river ships in Western and Eastern Europe, Alaska, Antarctica, the Arctic, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, the Galapagos islands, the Pacific and Australia. I have extensive knowledge of the cruise industry, having edited Cruise Passenger magazine for six years plus client publications for P&O Cruises, Cruiseco and Travel The World. In February 2020 I was one of three finalists in the prestigious CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) Australasia media awards, for my feature 24 Hours on P&O’s Pacific Explorer: What Passengers Never See.

Glamour Job

Ships’ christenings are glamorous and fun. I’ve seen Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Kate, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, Sophia Loren and Dame Joan Collins smash champagne bottles on the hulls of magnificent new vessels.

Out There

Among the many highlights of my cruising career was going to Antarctica. Travelling on Assam’s Brahmaputra River on a 12-cabin river ship and sailing on tall ships in French Polynesia and the Mediterranean are also right up there.
